Self-Care (I)

Hey! I know it's been a while since the last day I wrote here; other days I wasn't inspired to write, but today I feel the need to talk about something important: self-care.
What I realised during these Christmas holidays is the fact that I don't love myself. How can I want to have someone loving me if I don't know how to do it? How can I pretend to be happy when I hate myself? How can I pretend to be me when I don't know myself?
After reading books and being on the internet, I found out what is "self-care". According to the Oxford Dictionary, self-care is the practice of taking an active role in protecting one's own well-being and happiness, in particular during periods of stress. That sounds really nice and appealing, but do we really put it into practice?
How many times have you told yourself you look great, though you have gained a little bit of weight? How many times have you let yourself making a mistake and being genuinely okay with it? How many times have you forgiven yourself?
We may tell others we are fine, but sometimes that's the problem; we may say we are fine while we are not! Thus, we should all foster the importance of speaking up before it's too late. I am sure that if politicians and celebrities spoke more about this issue, there would be less number of suicides, as there would be more people feeling brave to talk about their problems.
If you're reading this, please speak up! You're not alone! In fact, I am just doing this to protect myself and others. We should encourage each other to talk about it; maybe through psychologists or through anonymous posts, but you do need to talk about this. Millions of people go through the same shit as you-so never feel afraid to talk about what is going on with your life. You MATTER!!!
(Tomorrow I will talk about ways to start loving yourself; I will try to put them into practice)
